Hancock: James E. Murphy, 83, of Hancock, passed away peacefully, at his home, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer, on July 7, 2020.
He was born October 18, 1936, a son of Hal F. and Harriet G. (LeCrone) Murphy. He excelled in high school football and basketball, and he graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after school. He was stationed at Fort Bliss in Texas, where he sustained a serious injury while serving. He took pride in his yard and enjoyed working in the outdoors.
On February 18, 1966, James was married to the love of his life, Sharon DuLong. They have been married for 54 years.
James was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed deer hunting. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was proud of his family.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, brothers-Dale and William Murphy, sister-Johanna LeBlanc, and daughter-in-law-Michelle Murphy.
He is survived by: his wife-Sharon of Hancock; 6 children-James L. Murphy, Scott W. Murphy, Robert T. Murphy, Kelly S. (Brandon) Schroyer and twin sister Kerri (Michael) Luoma, and Greg (Cora) Murphy; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; along with other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials in lieu of other expressions of sympathy, may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
