Hurontown: James A. “Jim” McCloskey, 67, of Hurontown, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Hancock on July 12, 1952 to the late Leo and Loraine McCloskey. He attended Saint Ignatius School in Houghton, graduating from Houghton High School in 1970. During his high school years he worked for Dan’s Used Cars and Mayworm’s Gas Station. After graduation he worked for several other businesses until finding his niche doing carpentry and construction work, going on to build his own carpentry business.
On August 14, 1976 he was united in marriage to Carol Etapa, being married for 44 years until his passing.
Jim was a member of Hurontown Fire and Rescue for 20 years, serving as fire chief for part of that time.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers Robert “Bobby” and Kenneth “Pluck” McCloskey and a nephew, Ken McCloskey.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter Amy (Tom) Juntunen; son Brady (Nicole) McCloskey; 4 grandchildren; a great grandson; his brother David (Donna) McCloskey; sisters Kathleen (David) Kennedy, Lois (William) Bright, and Jean (Randall) Ricchi; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock on Saturday from 2 until 3 P.M. A private family memorial service will follow with Rev. Bucky Beach to officiate.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to Hurontown Fire and Rescue, 47890 Main Street, Houghton, MI 49931 in the name of Jim McCloskey.
