Irma “Lorraine” Torola (88) née Tormanen of Sedar Bay passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021 at home surrounded by her family.
Lorraine was born in Cokato, Minnesota on February 3, 1933 to Charles and Hilda (Harkanen) Tormanen. She attended the Knapp one-room schoolhouse before attending Cokato High School, graduating with the class of 1950.
After graduation, Lorraine moved to work in the Twin Cities where she met Robert Torola. They were married on August 4, 1951.
Lorraine and Robert raised 11 children in Plymouth, Minnesota before retiring to Sedar Bay.
A lifelong member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church, Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, 13 siblings, several brothers and sisters-in-law, son-in-law Joel Koivisto, grandsons Joseph Tervo, Ben Johnson, and great-grandson Baby Larson.
Lorraine is survived by her husband Robert, three sons: Brian (Jean), Bruce (Sandy), and David (Jenni) Torola, eight daughters: Sandra Koivisto, Karen (Jeff) Kilpela, Anne (Fred) Heinonen, Maria (Paul) Lampinen, Lisa (Glenn) Niemi, Kristin (E.J.) Tervo, Sarah (Maurice) Niemela, Tricia (Aaron) Johnson, sister Dorothy Raisanen, brother-in-law Allen (Ria) Torola, sisters-in-law Maija Tolkkinen, Helen Heinonen, Esther Torola & Ellen Torola, 75 grandchildren, 159 great-grand-children, and two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Lorraine’s funeral will be Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church, M203, Calumet with David Taivalkoski officiating.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2021 and Saturday, one hour prior to the service at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church.
