Hubert J. Wuori, age 83, a former resident of Gay, passed away on January 29, 2022, at the Lighthouse of Hubbell.
He was born on September 1, 1938, in Laurium to Hubert A. and Alida (Hendrickson) Wuori. He attended the local schools and graduated from Lake Linden High School with the class of 1956.
After graduation, Hubert worked for Dion lumber Company until May 5, 1959, when he enlisted in the United States Army and served until April 20, 1961. He was honorably discharged and served in the United States Army Reserves until May 5, 1965.
Upon his discharge Hubert began working for Isle Royale as a trail boss for the next 12 years. Hubert worked part-time for the Keweenaw County Road Commission doing road repair.
In 1988, Hubert began working for Sherman Township as water plant operator and meter reader. In 1989, Hubert became Township Supervisors and served until 1998. The residents of Gay trusted Hubert to keep watch on their properties when spending their winters in warmer weather. Hubert could often be found riding his bike around Gay to do his meter readings and checking on residents properties.
Hubert enjoyed the outdoors and will be missed by the residents of Gay.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a younger sister Trudy.

A graveside service will be held on Friday May 20, 2022 at 1:00 PM in the Lake View Cemetery Veterans Section with military honors conducted by the Copper Country Veterans Association.
