Howard G. Peterson, age 94 of L’Anse, MI passed away at Canal View, Hancock, MI on March 18, 2024 with his loving family by his side. He was born in L’Anse on June 19, 1929 the son of the late Guy and Ingaborg (Tollefson) Peterson. Howard graduated from L’Anse High School in 1947. He married the former Jean Jackson at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming, MI on December 27, 1952. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2023. Howard joined the United States Army and proudly served his country for 2 years. He also sailed the great lakes upon the J E Upson, Charles A. Paul, Thomas Wilson as 3rd Mate. Howard had been employed at the former Celotex Corp in L’Anse as a Foreman until his retirement in 1988. Howard believed in a strong work ethic. He was a member of United Lutheran Church, L’Anse and the L’Anse American Legion Post #144. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and family activities.
Howard is survived by his beloved children Howard (Connie) Peterson of Greenville, MI and Kim (Rick) Parrish of L’Anse, grandchildren Jeanette (Rich) Krause, Krista (Ben) Wood, and Stacey Johnson, great grandchildren Cody, Alyssa, Jamison, Bryce, Kaiya, and Dru, great great grandson Maverick, and his brother Mark (Bonnie) Peterson of L’Anse. Several nieces, nephews and cousin also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Curt Peterson and his wife Jean.
Military honors and graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024 in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Julie Belew officiating. Immediately following the interment, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon at United Lutheran Church, L‘Anse.
