Obituary: Howard G. “Fred” Maki

Howard G. “Fred” Maki, age 70, of Covington, MI passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, February 5, 2018. He was born in Detroit, MI on October 6, 1947 the son of the late Clarence and Elsie (Virta) Maki. Howard attended school in Taylor, MI and graduated from Taylor Center High School in 1965. He had worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and retired in 2004. Howard lived in Romulus, MI before moving to Covington in 2014. He was a Christian in the Lutheran Church and a member of the NALC. Howard enjoyed golfing, playing poker, watching cowboy movies and had an extensive car collection which had included a Corvette and a Mustang. He will be remembered best for his sense of humor, he loved telling jokes and handing out Tootsie Rolls. As an example to his sense of humor, Howard had always said he wanted his tombstone to read “Fred” and “I told you I was sick”

Howard is survived by his loving family, sister Peggy Vervisch of Covington, nephew Ken (April) Vervisch of Alston and great nephew Nathaniel Vervisch of Alston, several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by Peggy’s cat “Heidi. Howard was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and brother-in-law Hank.

Graveside services for Howard will be held in the spring in the Covington Cemetery, Covington, MI.

The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
