Obituary: Henrietta LaMotte

Henrietta LaMotte, a resident of Houghton, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, at the Omega House in Houghton.

She was born on August 14, 1931, in Hubbell, a daughter of the late Henry and Melvina (Rock) Marcotte. Henrietta was raised in Hubbell. She attended St. Cecelia Catholic School and was a graduate of the Lake Linden High School with the class of 1949.

On Aug 21, 1954, she was united in marriage to George LaMotte. The couple resided in Houghton where they raised their family. On February 13, 2020, George preceded Henrietta in death.

Mrs. LaMotte had worked for the Daily Mining Gazette, before raising her family. She then was a dental assistant for Dr. Robert Nara, a Secretary for Dr. Gale, and retired from D&N Bank having started as a teller and moving in customer service, in Hancock.

Mrs. LaMotte was an active member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton being a eucharist Minister. She had volunteered at Portage Hospital for 18 years. Charity knitting after retirement was her passion. She made 100 pairs of mittens for the Salvation Army and 100 pairs of mittens for Keweenaw County No Kid Without a Christmas each year, for many years. She also knitted baby hats for Portage Hospital.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, her two brothers and her sister.

Surviving are: Her children: Dorothy Ballard of Troy, MI, Michael LaMotte of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Steven (Julie) LaMotte of Sequim, WA, Mary (Paul) Eathorne of Burien, WA, Mark (Sarah) LaMotte of Hancock, & Michele (Richard) Olson of Lac La Belle, MI; 10 Grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

A mass of Christian burial for Henrietta will be held at 11am Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton with Rev. Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Burial will take place in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of mass at the church.

The family wishes to thank the physicians and nurses at Portage Hospital, Omega House, and Baraga Hospice for their kindness and compassion for the care of Henrietta.
