As received from the Jacobson Funeral Home:
Hedy Losaria Capul, age 79, of Pelkie, MI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, in Howell, MI with her family nearby.
Hedy was born on August 29, 1942 in Lezo, Aklan, Philippines, daughter of Nicolas and Osita (Marte) Losaria. She graduated from Aklan Academy High School in the Philippines and earned a Bachelor’s of Nursing degree from Central Philippine University in 1963. Directly following graduation, she was offered a position on the staff at Iloilo Mission Hospital in the emergency room. After emigrating to the United States in 1971, she joined the staff at the former Belmont Community Hospital in northwest Chicago as a cardiac care nurse.
Hedy was introduced to Ben T. Capul through a mutual friend in 1974, and they were married on April 5, 1975 in Chicago, IL. She moved into a cozy house in the woods, where they raised three children. She nursed at Baraga County Memorial Hospital before becoming the school nurse at Baraga Area Schools in 1983, where she spent over 30 years tending to generations of Baraga and Pelkie students. One of her greatest joys was greeting kids, by name, in the school halls and throughout the community, even long after they’d graduated.
She was a member of St. Ann’s Church, where she served as a eucharistic minister and a choir member. Hedy enjoyed singing, reading, crochet, University of Michigan sports, Packer football, and Cubs baseball. She was known for her love of music, green thumb, work ethic, compassion, generosity, and the firm kindness with which she approached nursing and parenting. She will be greatly missed and held forever in our hearts.
Surviving are son Nicholas Capul of Southgate; daughters, Althea (Marcel) Treacy of Bethesda, Maryland, Diana (Aaron) Bachman of Howell, MI; four grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Hedy is preceded in death by Nicolas Losaria (father), Osita Losaria (mother), Wenefreda Losaria (sister), and her beloved husband Ben Capul. A private funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann’s Church in Baraga. Burial will be at the Pelkie Cemetery at approximately 3:15p, Saturday, September 18, 2021. A public memorial will be held at a later date. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L’Anse is assisting the family.
