Obituary: Harlowe G. Gougeon

Houghton

Harlowe G. Gougeon, 81, a lifelong resident of Houghton, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2019 at his home.

He was born on May 21, 1938 in Hancock, the son of the late Wilford and Edith (Ricard) Gougeon. He was raised in Houghton and was employed at Superior Block Company where he retired in 1990. Harlowe had many hobbies. He loved to tinker in his workshop on Baraga Avenue and sharpen chainsaw chains. One of his favorite things to do, which he was well known for, was sitting on his tractor on the Yooper Loop, watching traffic, and waving to friends as they passed by.

Harlowe was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his brother, Roger Scott (June) Jenkins and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harlowe is also survived by his special friends, Don and Maureen Morin and John and Stacey Donnelly and their families.

His family and friends would like to thank Portage Health Home Services and staff, Dr. Bruce Trusock and staff, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, the management and staff of the Douglass House for their care and friendship through the years. A special thanks to all those who stopped to talk with Harlowe, waved to him and to the many other friends who had touched his life.

Per his final wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public services. Spring burial will take place in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
