Obituary: Gordon Peterson

Copper City
Gordon J. Peterson, 78, a resident of Copper City passed away on Sunday December 22, 2019 at his home.

He was born on September 5, 1941 in Raymbaultown to George and Verna (Carlson) Peterson. He attended the local schools and graduated with the Class of 1960. 

Gordon loved sports! He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and Detroit Red Wing fan. He was also an avid outdoorsman in his younger years, where he loved to hunt and fish. He would often hunt out in Amasa, and visiting the guys at the Copper City Camp and the Bessolo camp in Lac La Belle.

He was an avid collector of many different “treasures”. Several treasures were often tinkered on in the garage fixing the small engines in them. 

On January 27, 1962 he was united in marriage to June Rost in Calumet.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Nick, and brothers, Roger, Donald, and Roy.

He is survived by:

His loving wife: June of Copper City

His daughter: Marie (Larry) Butala of Negaunee

His son: Steve (Sherry) Peterson of Copper City

His grandchildren: Timmy (Lisa), Benji (Emilee), Jimmy (Brianna), Jake, Jared, Jake (Nikki), Serena (Trenton), Bill (Shelby), Steven, Breanna (Tristan), Amelia, and Penny.

His great grandchildren: Max, Eva, Lexi, Hank, Zoey, Thomas, Ace, Anistyn, Noah, and Dominick.

His brother: Paul (Betty) Peterson of Washington

His Sister: Cheryl (Jim) Gherna of Hancock

His sister-in-laws: June Peterson of Ahmeek

Gloria Peterson of Sheboygan, Wisconsin

Kathy (Herb) Leopold of Hancock

And numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held in the spring in the Calvary Cemetery.
