Obituary: Gordon D Sellers

Gordon D Sellers, age 76, of L’Anse, MI passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 11, 1944 in Inglewood, CA son of William and Pauline (Kaylor) Sellers. Gordy graduated in 1962 from Midland High School, and then attended Michigan Technological University. He married the former Kathleen Schutz on December 5, 1964 in Houghton, MI, and they celebrated 55 years of marriage this past year. The couple resided in Midland, MI for 10 years where he worked for Dow Chemical. In 1974 he moved to Ishpeming and began working for Cleveland Cliffs, working as a general foreman of the concentrator retiring in 2004. In 1987 they moved to Michigamme, until moving to L’Anse in 2005.

In his younger days he played AAA baseball for an affiliate of St. Louis Cardinals. He was active in all sports, including golfing, bowling, and playing fast pitch softball for 20 years. Gordy was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time in Grand Marais, MI where he loved searching for agates. Gordy was a former member of the Elks Club in Ishpeming.

Surviving are his wife Kathleen Sellers of L’Anse; children, Lori (Jamie) Savoy of Hancock, Mark (Michelle) Sellers of Marquette; sister Janna (Howard) Baker of Grand Marais; grandchildren Eric, Chad & Jared Monticello, Kaitlin and Ethan Sellers; great grandchildren, Jax, Ollie, Ellie Monticello; niece Vickie Weber; nephew Jim Buenger; and his beloved rabbit, Daisy, who misses him very much.

Preceding him in death are his parents and sister Carolyn Buenger.

Visitation will be on Saturday, November 7th from 10-12 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Copper Country Humane Society.
