Obituary: Gordon Arthur Bammert

We are sad to announce the passing of Gordon Arthur Bammert of Lake Linden, MI. He died at the age of 84. Gordon passed away at home with his family.

Gordon was born in Ahmeek on September 13, 1939 to parents Reuben and Ina (Soivio) Bammert. He was one of 10 children. Gordon graduated from Calumet High School in 1957. He served in the United States Army until 1961 and later that year married Rose Marie Perreault of Lake Linden. Gordon and Rose Marie went on to have 5 children, Linda (Tom) Althaus of Saginaw, MN, Carl (Kay) Bammert of Marquette, MI, Scott (Danielle) Bammert of Gwinn, MI, Cheryl (Marc) Lefebvre of Medina, OH and Mark (Kristen) Bammert of Calumet, MI. He was also blessed to have 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members. 

Gordon worked for many years as a laborer for Calumet and Hecla Mining Co. and White Pine Copper Mining Co. He enjoyed reading, walking in the woods, fishing, dancing, telling stories and singing songs (often made up). 

Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Ina, his wife of 62 years, Rose Marie, his sisters Ruth (Ken) Karpinen, Dorothy (Clement) Beaudoin, Fay (Waino) Kuitunen and brother Reuben (Jeanie/Sandy) Bammert. He is survived by his children, sister Barbara (Erland) Lahnala, brothers Bill (Nancy) Bammert, Joe (Barbara) Bammert, Ken Bammert, and Rick (Pat) Bammert. 

The visitation for Gordon will be on February 16th from 10:00 to 11:00 at Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home, 26090 Pine Street, Calumet, MI 49913. A funeral service will be immediately following at the funeral home, with Pastor Mark Halonen to officiate. A meal will be provided immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
