Obituary: Gloria J. Duschene

Gloria J. Duschene, age 81 of L’Anse, Michigan passed away Thursday, August 18, 2022 at UP Health System, Marquette, Michigan. She was born in Waukegan, Illinois on September 27, 1940 the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Engler) Radke. Gloria graduated from Zion Benton High School, Zion, Illinois in 1958. She married Roger F. “Duke” Duschene in Waukegan, Illinois on December 22, 1984. He preceded her in death on August 24, 2017. Gloria had taken an 18-month training class to become a licensed agent for State Farm Insurance. She retired from State Farm Insurance Company after 10 years. Gloria was a member of St Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga and St. Ann’s Guild. She had enjoyed sewing, painting, golfing and spending time with family and friends.

Gloria is survived by her loving children, Jeffrey (Kim) Shumaker of Firestone, Colorado, Dr. Douglas Todd (Toni) Shumaker of Rockford, Illinois, and Debra (Steve) Poffinbarger of Litchfield, Illinois, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brother Richard Radke of Des Moines, Iowa, sisters Thelma Labinski of Austin, Texas, and Mildred Petitclair of New Jersey. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Barbara, husband Roger, brothers Walter and Robert, and sisters Norma, Jeannette, and Barbara.

Graveside funeral services and interment for Gloria will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in the Baraga Cemetery, Baraga, MI. with Father Corey Litzner officiating.

Interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery, Baraga, Michigan.
