Houghton: Gladys Q. Dawson, 93, of the Bluffs in Houghton, passed away on January 3, 2018 at PortagePointe in Hancock.
She was born on September 3, 1924 in Trenton, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Joseph L. Quinty and Stella M. Ritter. Following high school graduation, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1946 from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and later her PhD in 1951 from the same university. In early years she was employed at DuPont and later at State College PA. In 1963 she came to Michigan Tech where she was a professor in Chemistry until her retirement in 1985.
Gladys was married to Donald E. Dawson who preceded her in death.
She was a member of the American Chemical Society and the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She was also very active in the Pine Mountain Music Festival for many years.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Quinty.
She is survived by a son, Timothy A. (Jacquelyn) Dawson of Texas and a granddaughter, Sara N. (John) Bessette (Dawson) also of Texas.
There will be a memorial service at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the Bluffs Ballroom in Houghton. There will be no visitation.
