Obituary: Geraldine “Geri” Hall

As received from the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home:

Geri Hall, 74, of Ahmeek, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 22, with family at her side.

She was born Jan. 29, 1947, in Calumet, Mich., to James and Margaret (Zadravetz) Whitford, of Ahmeek. She attended local schools and graduated from Calumet High School in 1965.

Geri was married to Gary Hall from 1967 to 1972 and had a son, Tracy.

Until her retirement in 2017, in addition to being a single, full-time mother, she wore many hats throughout her working career. Geri began at Fort Wilkins State Park. She enjoyed interacting with the community while employed at the Mohawk Superette, the White House Inn, and Malnar’s Bar. She was an office manager at the Homestake Mining Co. at Centennial Mine No. 6 and Louisiana-Pacific. Geri was most proud of her time serving as Keweenaw County Treasurer and thoroughly enjoyed the people with whom she worked.

She loved spending time at Eagle River beach with family and friends. Geri frequented classic country music concerts and festivals. She was especially into listening to oldies country on “The Dick Storm Show.” In earlier years, she liked playing baseball and hockey, and snowmobiling. In later years, she enjoyed her “girls’ getaways” to local casinos and spoiling her closest great-nieces and nephews.

Geri was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret (Zadravetz) and James Whitford, sisters Mary Metish and Bonnie Smith, and brother Jimmy Whitford.

She is survived by son, Tracy, of Ahmeek, sister Sharon (Brent) Bonini, of Lake Linden, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews as well as many close friends.

Upon Geri’s request, no public services will be held. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, please consider donating to the Ahmeek Village Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department.
