Gerald “Jer C. Carlson, 82, a resident of Hancock passed away Monday, April 25, 2022, at Canal View — Houghton County where he had been a resident patient.
He was born on October 9, 1939, in Liminga, MI, a son of the late Clifford and Milma (Porkka) Carlson. As a child, the family moved to Hancock and Jerry was a graduate of the Hancock High School.
After High School, Mr. Carlson worked at the Red Owl Grocery store before beginning a career working for Michigan Technological University retiring as a Stores Clerk at Wadsworth Hall.
On September 29, 1961, he was united in marriage to the former Theresa Misen. The couple resided in Hancock where they raised their three children. On March 18, 2011, Theresa preceded Jerry in death.
Mr. Carlson enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Attending his children’s and grandchildren’s different sporting events. He coached Little League Baseball for the Hancock Eagles for many years and was proud to have managed his son’s team to an undefeated year. He also was an avid Detroit Red Wing, Detroit Lions and Detroit Tiger fan.
Preceding him in death were his wife Theresa, his sister-in-law: Rose (Fritz) Grandchamp, his infant twin siblings along with his furry companions Musta and Lady.

A private memorial service for Jerry will be held at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Pastor Jesse Aho to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.
