George H. Ross, 70, a resident of Ripley, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at the Omega House in Houghton.

He was born on April 6, 1953 in Hancock, a son of the late George and Elsie (Maki) Ross. Soon after graduation from Hancock Central High School, George proudly served in the United States Navy Air Squadron at Moffett Field in California. He was a welder for several years and then became a courier with Federal Express for over 30 years until his retirement.

George was a proud member of the American Legion for over 47 years. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. He spent many years hunting at Sandy Lake with “the boys.” Fishing with his grandson and his buddy Butch was another past time.

George and Sherry married in July of 1985 and they spent 38 wonderful years together.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by sisters Jeanne Andrews, Jill Ross, and Bobbie Sue Ross, nieces Elise and Sara, and a very special aunt, Lorraine Link.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry, daughter Sally Moilanen (Seth Niemi), grandson Erich (Bailey) Walter, sisters Janis (Ed) Pello and Judy Jahn, brothers Robert “Shmo” Ross and John (Pyong) Ross; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of incredible friends. He also leaves behind his furry friends, Daisy and Lilly.

Per George’s request there will be a celebration of life with the place and time to be announced at a later time.

George’s greatest joys were being Erich’s Papa, and showing Sally around the kitchen. Sherry says, “Never forget Georgie, I love you more.”

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Omega House, Copper Country Humane Society, or charity of the donors choice in the name of George Ross.
