Gary R. Palmer, 64, of Hancock, died Friday, May 4, 2018, at UP Health System-Marquette.
He was born April 19, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, a son of the late Charles and Betty (Hayrynen) Palmer, and was a 1973 graduate of the Hancock Central High School.
Gary worked in the family business prior to working at Michigan Technological University for 28 years, working grounds crew and receiving. He retired due to ill health.
Gary loved being with people. He was a social butterfly and enjoyed talking with anyone he met. Anyone who met Gary was a stranger but once. He was always there, ready and willing to give friends and strangers a ride when needed. He enjoyed a good strong cup of black of coffee, listening to hard rock music and boating. He was also a driver for local car dealerships.
Gary is survived by his son, Joshua of Hancock; brothers, Doug (Loretta) of St. Augustine, Florida, and Mark of Jacksonville, Florida; a nephew, Gregory Palmer of Austin, Texas; a niece, Allison (Jonathan) Birbal of St. Augustine; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; as well as aunts and uncles.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at the Jukuri-Antila Funeral in Hancock. A time of sharing memories of Gary will take place at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock. Arrangements are being handled by Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
