HANCOCK Gary M. Lanala, 68, of Hancock, passed away on Thursday morning, November 8, 2018, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
He was born in Bessemer, on July 19, 1950, a son of the late Arnold and Edith (Somero) Lanala. He was a graduate of Houghton High School and then from Northern Michigan University auto mechanics school.
He worked for many years at Northern Hardwoods, and then went to work in the Detroit area as a window washer. He returned to live in the Copper Country doing odd jobs, until ill health forced him to retire. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Billy, and Karl.
He is survived by two brothers, Patrick (Debbie) Beyers of Dollar Bay, and Ronald Lanala of Houghton; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Private family services will be held at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock, with Pastor D.J. Rasner to officiate. Interment will be in the Elo Cemetery.
