As received from the Jacobson Funeral Home:
Gary Eino Rinkinen, age 74 of Baraga, MI passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at U.P. Health System, Marquette, MI.
He was born August 6, 1946 in Hancock, MI son of Eino and Ruth “Vernice” (Varline) Rinkinen. Gary graduated from Baraga High School in 1964. He married the former Nancy Burke on December 23, 1965 in Baraga. They were married for 54 years. Gary worked as a self-employed logger and was also a welder for some local shops. He was a skilled taxidermist and also made recurve bows that his grandson now uses. His fondest memories were of going out west to hunt with his son, Jason. While he was not known for his conversation skills (he was nearly 100% Finnish after all), he had a passion for hunting, fishing, and trapping, and he passed that love onto his grandkids. He also enjoyed a good venison burger, ice cream, and homemade treats.
Surviving are his wife Nancy Rinkinen of Baraga; son Jason (Amanda) Rinkinen of Baraga; daughter Sheri (Bob) Vizina of L’Anse; three grandchildren, Whitney, Mathew, Annika; and a great granddaughter, Layla.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his son, Jeff Rinkinen, and his brother, Roy Rinkinen.
A graveside service will be held in the spring in the Baraga Cemetery. Jacobson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
