Gary A. Magnant, age 69 of Baraga, MI passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022 at UP Health System, Marquette, MI. He was born in Baraga on November 9, 1952 the son of the late Joseph and Grace (Genschow) Magnant. Gary graduated from Baraga High School and attended college in California. He had worked as a diesel mechanic and truck driver and retired from the Ojibwa Casino where he worked in surveillance. Gary was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. He enjoyed going to the casino, watching the 49ers, gardening, hunting, fishing, camping and traveling.
Gary is survived by his loving children, Tracy (Clinton Bunnell) Magnant of Gwinn, MI, Gary (Bonnie) Magnant of Washington, Tony (Joanne Jennings) Magnant of Baraga, Chris (Rian) Magnant and Michael Magnant both of California, grandchildren Eric, Nathan, Toni, Kyle, Cody, Courtney, Kevin, Beatrice, Anna, Amy, Christopher, Katie, and Riley, and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his ex’s, Harriet and Suzanne. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joseph, sisters Janice, Betty Jean and Linda and “the love of his life” Glady “Turtle” Rantanen.
Funeral services for Gary will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2022 at Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Father Corey Litzner officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
Interment will take place in the Pinery Cemetery.
