Frank Stewart Carlton 87, a longtime resident of Eagle Harbor, Michigan died on August 27, 2021. Frank was born on December 1, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Henry and Enid Polkinghorn Carlton who were both born and raised in the Keweenaw. He is survived by his wife, Cornelia, their sons John (Janelle) of Saint Cloud, MN and Michael (Natalie) of Orland Park, IL, grandchildren Kristin, Sarah, Kayden and Miles as well as many cousins and close friends in the Keweenaw. Frank attended Northwestern University and later served honorably in the U.S. Army. While at Northwestern, he met and then married Cornelia in 1959. They were longtime residents of Downers Grove, IL, where Frank was a special agent for the Northwestern Mutual Life prior to retiring in the Keweenaw in Eagle Harbor where he spent summers growing up. Frank was a supporter of many area organizations and formerly served as a board member for Omega House, the Copper Range Historical Society, Houghton County Historical Society, Painesdale Mine and Shaft as well as being a life member, former board member for the Keweenawy Community Land Trust, Keweenaw County Historical Society. He was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church of the Keweenaw in Mohawk. Frank passes on his love of Eagle Harbor and the Keweenaw to his family. Services will be held with Pastor Larry Malloy at Saint Peter by the Sea in Eagle Harbor at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 5, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Keweenaw County Historical Society and Omega House. Ryan Funeral Home is serving the family.
