Florence C. Tollefson, age 83, of L’Anse, MI passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse.
Florence was born in Ontonagon, MI on January 30, 1936, the daughter of the late Edward and Hilda (Walitalo) Polo. She attended school in Ontonagon and graduated from Ontonagon High School 1954. Florence married John E. Tollefson in Ontonagon on February 22, 1958. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2001. She had worked as a front clerk for the L’Anse Sentinel until her retirement. Florence was a member of United Lutheran Church, L’Anse and a former member of Eastern Star. Florence had enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, pinochle, and cribbage. She was an avid Red Wings and Michigan fan. Florence loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Florence is survived by her loving family; children Cathy Hebert of Baraga, Ed (Alyna) Tollefson of L’Anse and Vicky (Steve) Solberg of L’Anse, grandchildren Jeremy, John, Jay, Darrin, Dustin, Chad, Jesse, Danielle and Crystal, numerous great grandchildren, sisters-in-law Kathy Polo of Howell, MI, Marlene (Ed) Daamgard of Florida and Ann (Phil) Endres of Florida. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Sandy Tollefson, brother Dan Polo and great grandson Gage.
A celebration of Florence’s life will be held at a later date and interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with the arrangements.
