Evelyn “Evie” Newman, 91, a resident of Calumet passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Lighthouse of Hancock.
She was born on May 21, 1927 in Calumet to Fred and Mayme (Tervo) Hella. During her childhood she moved with her family to Munising.
After school Evie began working with the Vienna Bakery. She then started working as a cleaner for The Laurium Apostolic Lutheran Elders Home, the Northgate Motel, and Columbia Linen.
Evie loved to garden and can vegetables. She also enjoyed to go out camping and fishing.
On June 12, 1945 she married Edward Lampela, he preceded her in death in 1971.
Following Ed’s passing, she married Robert Newman on June 14, 1980. She loved to polka dance with Bob.
Evie was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mayme Hella, her brother Ernest Hella, Her husbands Edward Lampela and Robert Newman, and her infant granddaughter, Karen.
She is survived by:
Her daughter: Judy (Gary) Raisanen of Calumet
Her son: Fred (Laura) Lampela of Marquette
Her grandchildren: Steve Raisanen, Amy Jenich, Laurie (Dave) Outinen, Kristen (Derek) Bressette, and Dale (Sarah) Raisanen
Her great grandchildren: Rachel, Nolan, and Dylan Jenich, Madelyn & Mallory Klobuchar, Max & Luke Bressette, Damon, Lillie, Cooper, and (Baby to be) Raisanen, and Vanessa & Lacie Mosher
Her brother: George (Judy) Hella of Harlangen, Texas
And numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call at Faith Lutheran Church on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and on Satruday, April 6, 2019 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jared Howard to officiate.
Burial will take place in the spring at the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
