Obituary: Eva Leone Komula

EVA LEONE KOMULA
Eva Leone Komula, 95, of Mohawk passed away on June 4, 2018. Eva was born on August 2, 1922, the daughter of Minnie (Lampi) Koljonen and Albert Koljonen. Eva was salutatorian of the Calumet High School class of 1939, the largest class ever from Calumet with 220 graduates. Eva then moved to Detroit before entering the U.S. Navy where she served as Storekeeper Second Class during WW II in San Francisco, CA from 1944-1946.

Eva eventually returned to Mohawk where she married John V. Komula on August 20, 1966. John preceded her in death in 1987. Eva was a secretary at Michigan Tech University, retiring in 1983. Eva was a lifetime member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Keweenaw where she was very active. She was also a member of the Keweenaw County Historical Society and the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System.

Eva was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, and her two brothers, Roy Koljonen Sr and Paul Koljonen Sr and nephew Roy Koljonen Jr. Eva is survived by nephews Paul Koljonen Jr of Laurium and Barry (Liisa) Koljonen of Lac La Belle, a special great niece Katie Koljonen of Laurium, several great nieces and great nephews, an aunt Laina Koljonen of Queen Creek, AZ, several cousins, and a sister-in-law, Linda Givens of Hancock. Eva was blessed with many compassionate friends and caretakers over the past year and a half and she was thankful to each and every one of them. We would also like to thank At Home Companions and Aspirus At Home Hospice Care for the care that they provided to Eva.

A funeral service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church of Keweenaw in Mohawk at 11:00 am on Friday June 8th, with Pastor Tim Johnston officiating. Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be held directly following the funeral service with the Copper Country Veterans Association to officiate.

In lieu of flowers or any expression of sympathy, Eva requested that contributions be made to Bethany Lutheran Church of Keweenaw which will be forwarded to World Hunger.
