Eunice E. (Larson) Tonkin, 91, of L’Anse, MI passed away at Baraga County Memorial Hospital on April 18th, 2020. She was born on November 7, 1928 in Ishpeming, MI to the late Arthur and Ethel Larson. She graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1946. Eunice worked in the office at the Style Shop in Ishpeming and White Pine Copper and Baraga County Memorial Hospital as Administrator’s secretary. She married the late Robert Tonkin of Negaunee in Ishpeming at the Cleveland Avenue Methodist Church. Eunice was an active member of the White Pine Methodist Church and United Methodist Church of L’Anse. She served in many capacities in the church including teaching Sunday School, Youth Group and United Methodist Women for which she served as President of the local group and President of the District United Methodist Women. Eunice also attended the National UMW Convention in Anaheim, CA in 1986. She was a member of the L’Anse Legion Auxiliary, BCMH Hospital Auxiliary and local cancer society.
She is survived by her six children Elizabeth (Bruce) Clark of Florence, WI, Deborah (Bill) Moilanen of Pennsylvania, Kristin (Delbert) Kahler of L’Anse, Bradley (Debra) Tonkin of Arvada, Colorado, Jeffrey (Julie) Tonkin of Riverside, IL and Roberta (Bill) Burns of Denver, Colorado, 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren, her sister Joanne (Sid) Conn of Lansing, MI and sister-in-law Inga Tonkin of Crystal Falls, MI. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Tonkin and sisters Jean Williams and Helen Ring.
Due to the current situation a funeral service will be held at the L’Anse United Methodist Church at a later date. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests memorials in Mrs. Tonkin’s honor to the United Methodist Church in L’Anse.
