Obituary: Ethel Lois Pelland

Ethel Lois Pelland, 96, of Dollar Bay, passed away at her home on Wednesday evening, December 8, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Lois was born on December 13, 1924 in Dollar Bay to the late John and Anna (Getzen) Isaacson. She was a graduate of Dollar Bay High School. Besides raising her family of six children, she was employed at C & H Mining Company as a secretary, she was a library aid at Dollar Bay Schools, later worked in the school hot lunch program (becoming the supervisor of the hot lunch program), and then was the school bookkeeper until she retired.

Lois married Francis Pelland on June 16, 1954 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Dollar Bay. He preceded her in death in 2011.

Lois was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She was an avid reader, loved cooking, baking, and cake decorating. She loved her family as they meant a lot to her.

Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Steve Crouch, and by two brothers, Chester and Lloyd Isaacson.

Lois is survived by her 6 children: Paula Pelland, Chester Pelland, Barbara Pelland, Jerome (Donna) Pelland, Cheryl Pelland, and Carol Crouch; 4 grandchildren: Niki (Chris) Papke, Geoffrey Zindrew, Brittney (Cody Frederick) Pelland, and Abigail (Nick) Asper; 4 great-grandchildren: Aria Papke, Lillian Pelland-Rippey, Madison Pelland-Rippey, and Alayna Cornish; an expected unborn great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock with Reverend Father Jubish Joseph to officiate. Spring interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. Friends may call at the church from 10 until 10:45 before the service.
