Ernest Andrew “Ernie” Kipina, a resident of Superior Road, Houghton, passed away on December 26, 2017, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital following a brief illness.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Miriam; son, Paul (Beth) of Oswego, Illinois; daughter, Ann of Chicago, Illinois; as well as nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2018, at Houghton Seventh Day Adventist Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home of Hancock, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
Ernest Andrew “Ernie” Kipina, a resident of the Superior Road, Houghton, passed away on December 26, 2017, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Houghton on August 7, 1932, to Matt and Johanna (Niemi) Kipina, and was a graduate of the Houghton High School.
With the exception of three years spent in the Detroit area, Ernie resided in the Copper Country his entire life and built his home across the road from the farm where he grew up.
He worked in many industries including mining, lumber and construction. Ernie retired as a machinist from the Tangen Manufacturing Division of Pettibone Corporation after many years of service.
Ernie married the former Miriam Riutta on August 28, 1957, in Laurium and recently celebrated sixty years of marriage.
Ernie was a longtime member of the Houghton Seventh Day Adventist Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder and church board member.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; and a daughter, Martha Lynn Kipina.
