Elwood Herman Heinonen of Calumet, Michigan passed away on September 5, 2024 at his home in Warren, Michigan.
Elwood was born on May 12, 1936 in Calumet, Michigan to Samuel and Selma (Laitinen) Heinonen. Elwood graduated from Calumet High School in the spring of 1954. Elwood went on to serve in the US Army from 1959-1961.
Elwood graduated from Michigan Tech with a bachelors of science and mechanical engineering in 1962. After graduation he made his home downstate in Hamtramck outside of Detroit. He worked for General Motors as an engineer for many years until his retirement. After retirement, he spent his time helping a friend run their business.
Elwood loved making trips to the Copper Country and visiting his family and friends.
Elwood is proceeded in death by his parents Samuel and Selma Heinonen. He is survived by nine nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will take place at Lake View Cemetery on Friday, September 20, 2024.
