Obituary: Elvera Esther Koskela

Elvera Esther Koskela, of Stanton Township, passed away at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility on June 18, 2018.

She was born December 19, 1928, in Quincy Township to Harold and Helen Eilola.

Evie worked at Graduate School of Michigan Tech until she retired.

She was married to Roy Victor Koskela of Liminga who preceded her in death.

Evie is survived by her sister, Diane Papke of Norfolk, Nebraska; two sons, Gary (Monica) Koskela of Northville, Mich., and Glenn (Mary) Koskela of Marquette; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, Michael (Angie) Koskela and their children, Reganne and Austin of South Lyon, Mich., Robyn (Ian) Loveridge and children, Luke and Layla of Livonia, Mich., Jesse Berglund of Marquette, Dana Koskela and son, Michael of Canyon, Minn.; Jake (Jill) Berlund of Marquette, and Jennifer (Dennis) Murray and children, Dennis, Jr., Addison, Jaden, Gavin, Isabelle and Tristan of Casselberry, Fla.; one nephew, Bill (Karen) Eilola of Atlanta, Mich.

Evie loved bush riding, snowmobiling, fishing, boating and raising her sons with Roy. Her grandchildren held a special spot in her heart.

After Roy’s passing, she spent the rest of her life with James Kneebone in Atlantic Mine. She loved cards and casinos. (She never lost!). She spent the last two years of her life at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility, with Jim at her side on a daily basis.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hancock, with Pastor Jesse Aho to officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday in the church. Interment will be in the Liminga Cemetery.
