Obituary: Elsie M. Iskra

Elsie M. Iskra, 100, of South Range, passed away with family by her side on Monday, October 19, 2020, at Canal View Houghton County where she had been a resident since 2011.

She was born September 27, 1920, in Trimountain, a daughter of the late Vincent and Martha (Parenti) Lombardi, and was a 1937 graduate of the Painesdale High School.

Elsie was married to Martin “Teenie” Iskra on March 27, 1943, in Abilene, Texas.

The couple returned to the area in 1951, residing in South Range where they raised their family. Teenie passed away in 1978.

Elsie will always be remembered as a loving homemaker and wonderful cook. Her family enjoyed her desserts, homemade ravioli, povitica and pasties. She enjoyed planting vegetable gardens and canning. She loved the outdoors and her walks in the woods.

Elsie is survived by a son, Martin “Marty” (Gale) Iskra of Trimountain; a daughter, Mary (Jeff) Fitzner of Greenville, Mich.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Leeann Iskra of Minocqua, Wis., Christopher (Karyn) Iskra of Houghton and their children, Teagan and Quinn, and Carrie (Matt) Colligan of DePere, Wisc., and their children, Mya, Penn and Hazel; a sister, Margaret Lombardi of Portage Pointe; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, Elsie was also preceded in death by two brothers, Louis and Fiore “Butch”; and a sister, Mary Lombardi.

The family would like to thank the 2nd floor staff at Canal View for their compassion and excellent care given to Elsie over the years.

A private family graveside service will be held in the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range, with Fr. John Martignon to officiate.
