Obituary: Elsie F. Corey

As received from Antila Funeral Service:

Elsie F. Corey, 92, of Hancock, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at her home with family by her side.

She was born April 17, 1929, in Ontonagon, a daughter of the late Wesley and Helen Hoover. She attended grade school and high school in Ontonagon. On April 22, 1947, she was married to Donald David Corey II in Ontonagon.

While raising her family, she went on to complete high school and earned an Associate of Arts degree from Gogebic Community College. During these years, she obtained a driver’s license, learned to downhill ski at the Porkies, took art classes and created many beautiful oil and watercolor paintings. Throughout the years, Elsie and her family traveled around the United States during the summer months, camping along the way, enjoying nature and the outdoors and visiting with family and friends. The family celebrated many special occasions on the family beach land -The Corey Beach- off of Shady Lane near Silver City.

During the late 1970’s, Elsie worked for two summers at the Rock Harbor Lodge on Isle Royale where she did housekeeping and cooking. She loved the island and made sure her children and family came there to experience all it had to offer.

Elsie had a strong Christian faith.  She loved to cook and bake and would often bring fresh bread or pies to friends and neighbors. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
