Ellen Madeline Heikkinen, age 77 of L’Anse, MI passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Bayside Village, L’Anse. She was born in Hancock, MI on March 29, 1947 the daughter of the late Charles and Ann (Kotter) Monson. Ellen graduated from L’Anse High School. While married to Lance Heikkinen they raised 4 sons. Ellen had been employed with Community Action and retired from the Ojibwa Casino as a slot attendant. She loved spending time with her family and cats, going to the casino, playing bingo, hummingbirds, was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and in her earlier years had enjoyed belly dancing.
Ellen is survived by her loving sons Scott (Jackie) Heikkinen of Aura, Jason (Rhonda) Heikkinen of L’Anse, Corey Heikkinen (Jess) of L’Anse, and Joel Heikkinen of L’Anse, grandchildren Jordan, Brittney, Sammy, Felix, David, Maddy, Dillon, Haylee, Diana, David, and Jimmy, 9 great grandchildren, and Nicole Heikkinen of Kingsford.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Ann Monson, her step mother Thelma Monson, step father Ernest Mytty, and her granddaughter Haylee’s mother, Lori Niemi.
A celebration of Ellen’s life and potluck luncheon will be held from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at the Baraga American Legion Post #444, Baraga.
Interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery at a later date
