Elaine Violet Peterson, 89, a long-time resident of Portage Pointe passed away Tuesday, January 16th after a long battle with Dementia.
Elaine was born on December 5 th, 1934 in Keweenaw Bay, a daughter of the late Martin and Vieno (Tihinen) Klemett. Shortly after graduating from Chassell High School, she married and relocated to Painesdale and South Range where she was a homemaker for her three children Michael, Cindy, and Cheryl. Elaine was known to have SISU and her sense of humor no matter the situation. She enjoyed gardening and cooking where her makkara mojakka was everyone’s favorite. Elaine spent several of her later years living as a neighbor to her mother Vieno, in which they were known to take their daily drives.
She also helped with raising grandchildren as much as she could and shared her joy of radio bingo with them. Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her children Michael (Kathy) Peterson of Tapiola, Cindy (John) Juntunen of Hancock, and Cheryl Peterson of Pelkie; Her Grandchildren Steve (Erin) Juntunen, Shantel (Andrew) Lorenz, Michael Spagnotti, Rhonda Peterson, and Michael Peterson; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her death were here parents, brothers Rodney Klemett, Mervin Klemett, David Klemett, and sisters Ann Klemett and Karen Oja.

A funeral service for Elaine will be held 11 am Monday, January 22, 2024, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Hancock Chapel with Rev. Bucky Beach to officiate. Friends may call on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 10 am until time of services at the funeral home.
