Elaine J. Lampinen, 89, of Onnela, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2020 at Canal View Houghton County with her family by her side. She had been a resident/patient there for the past three and a half years.
She is survived by her three daughters: Marcella (Rev. James) Fundum of Fort Wayne, IN, Judy (Dale) Elliott of Traverse City, MI, and Sherry (Greg) Blust of Onnela, along with her two granddaughters, Jennifer Elliott of Chicago, IL and Nicole (Carter) Peace of Denver, CO. She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mae Morien, Mable Morien, Bernie (Hester) Lampinen, Earl Lampinen, Verna Lampinen, and Bill Allread as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Elaine was born in Hatley, WI, a daughter of the late Jacob and Augusta Marks. As a child she moved to Ontonagon and graduated from Ontonagon High School.
She was united in marriage to Ormond “Hank” Lampinen, who preceded her in death in 1988. Together they made their home in the Onnela location.
In her early years, she was active in 4-H and later in the Home Extension where she served as secretary of the Houghton-Keweenaw council. She was an active member of SS. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, serving for many years as a Sunday School teacher and treasurer of the church. In later years she was a greeter, office helper, and participated in Senior Saints. She was employed as the office manager for Dr. Leonard Beesley for 28 years, with prior employment at the City Drug store and Michigan Tech.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and friend. She enjoyed baking, reading, and going for walks. Her favorite pass time was spending time with her family.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Hank Lampinen, her parents, Jacob and Augusta Marks, her three sisters, seven brothers, and their spouses: Phyllis (Arthur) Tapani, Leona (William) T’Niemi, Helen Morien, Leonard (Verna) Marks, Elmer Marks, Anton (Delephine) Morien, Oscar (Ann) Morien, Joseph Morien, William Morien, and Edward Morien.
Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff on the third floor of Canal View Houghton County and their physical therapy department for their compassionate care.
A private funeral service will be held at SS. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Houghton, with Pastor Aaron Gehrke officiating. Burial will be in the Liminga Cemetery.
