Obituary: Edwin Gransell

Edwin Robert Gransell, 54, of L’Anse, died Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Bellin Health-Unity Hospice in Green Bay following an illness.

He was born July 14, 1967, in L’Anse, MI, a son of Glenn and Janet (Erickson) Gransell. He was a 1986 graduate of L’Anse High School, received an Associate degree from Gogebic Community College in 1988, earned a Bachelor’s degree in social work from NMU in 1991, and was a lifelong area resident.

Ed was employed at Baraga County Memorial Hospital before taking on a position as a case worker at Child Protective Services at the KBIC for 18 years and then at the State of Michigan from 2017 until the present. That was his life’s work, protecting children in the community. Ed had a positive impact on the community and everyone he met. Always willing to help where needed.

He married Joanne M. Bianco at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in L’Anse on October 4, 1997.

Ed was a member of the L’Anse Area School Board and the L’Anse Baptist Church. He was an avid sports fan supporting the Packers, Brewers, Bucks, and Husky Hockey. Ed enjoyed working out, grilling and spending time with friends & family.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne M. Gransell of L’Anse; daughters, Laura and Mandy Gransell, both of Green Bay, WI; mother, Janet Gransell of L’Anse; brothers, Tom Gransell of Ripon, WI, John (Jenn) Gransell of L’Anse and Roger (Jamie Hanner) Gransell of New Franken, WI; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 10 am until 1 pm at the L’Anse Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm in the church with Rev. Gerald Bishop officiating. Interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.
