Obituary: Edward Paul Abbott Sr.

Edward Paul Abbott Sr, age 73 of Kingsford, MI passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the  Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 18, 1951, in Waukegan, IL son of Orrin and Ruth (Gibson) Abbott.  Paul (Ed) married Judith Cadeau on June 7, 1969, in Illinois, where they raised 3 children.  They moved to L’Anse in 1995 and in 2018 Paul (Ed) moved to Kingsford, MI.  He held many jobs throughout the years, but none he loved more than being a heavy machine mechanic.

Paul (Ed) was a family man, this was so important to him.  He loved and valued family traditions.  He taught his children and grandchild the importance of respect, forgiveness, and hard work.   He always encouraged them to follow their dreams.  Even in his final days he stressed the importance of self-worth. 

Surviving are his wife Judith Abbott of L’Anse; children, Edward (Laura) Abbott Jr. of Fairbanks, Alaska, Theresa (Joesph) Freeman of L’Anse, Angela (Michael Plantenga) Abbott of Marquette, MI; brothers, Robert (Gayela) Abbott of Couderay, WI, Roger (Sharon) Abbott of Monmouth, IL; grandchildren, Brandon Elliot, Leah Abbott, Kali Abbott, Michael Eichenlaub, Courtney Almli, Anastacia Freeman, Dasan Smith, Talon Smith, Ayden Plantenga, Coltyn Plantenga; and 10 great grandchildren. His sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews always held a special place in his heart. 

Preceding him in death are his parents, Orrin and Ruth Abbott; brother Richard Abbott; and sister Karen Gruber.

Paul (Ed)’s children would like to send a special thank you to his friends, Vincent Fiurucci, Scott Neuens, Dave (Mary) Johnson and Mike Johnson. 

There will be no funeral service at this time.  The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
