Obituary: Edward Lutz

Edward F. Lutz of Laurium passed away unexpectedly at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital on Thursday January 6, 2022. He was born on November 11, 1962 in Laurium, a son of Edward and Delores Lutz of Kearsarge. He attended local high schools and graduated from Calumet High School in 1980. After high school, he entered the National Guard and enlisted in the United States Air Force in October of 1986. He proudly served in the military for a total of 26 years before retiring. He then worked 11 years for the Alaska State Department of Corrections before fully retiring and moving back to Laurium in November 2020. He married the former Kathleen Bridge of North Pole, Alaska. They resided in North Pole until moving back to the local area. He had a great sense of humor and he was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed the outdoor life and loved to camp. Utilizing his learned culinary skills during his military career, he was an excellent cook and enjoyed summer cookouts. Ed is survived by his wife Katherine of 15 years, daughter Sarah Berryman of Laurium, and his son, Andrew of Ironwood. He is also survived by his mother Delores Lutz of Kearsarge, brothers Michael (Susan) Lutz of Houghton, and Jerry Lutz of Kearsarge; stepchildren Elizabeth Pennington, Christina Pretty, Emily Mudick and Zackary Mudick and several cousins and special friends: Bob and Linda, J-Rod, Johnny, Little Ricky and L.T. Ed was preceded in death by his father Edward L. Lutz. In lieu of flowers, gifts and other forms of sympathy, the family is asking for any donations be made to the VFW Post 3900 at 26628 Larch Street, Calumet MI 49913. Cremation will take place and visitation will be held at Ryan Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 from 4 :00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with military honors ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Online condolences for the family may be left at ryanfhcalumet.com. Interment will be in the spring at Lake View Cemetery.
