Houghton: Edward J. Huls, 87, of the Bluffs Senior Living Community in Houghton, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 6, 2019.
He was born on January 16, 1932 in Shelby, Michigan to Adrian and Edna (Adema) Huls. Ed earned his Masters Degree in Education from Michigan State University in Education. He served as Superintendent of the Chassell Schools for nearly 20 years after beginning his career in education in Pellston, Michigan.
On October 28, 1960 he was united in marriage to Gertrude “Trudi” Cook.
Ed served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a Corporal from 1952 to 1954.
He belonged to the Michigan Association of School Administrators and the Future Farmers of America.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wes and Larry Huls.
He is survived by his wife Trudi; sons Darda (Barb) Huls of Holland, Michigan and Tim (Paula) Huls of Calumet; 4 grandchildren: Dylan (Jenni) Huls of Kalamazoo, Jaclyn Huls of Holland, MI, Cassie (Dylan) Parske of Calumet, and Chris (Kim) Huls of Holland, MI; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers Richard (Marcia) Huls, David Huls, and Douglas (Linda) Huls; his sister, Karole (Gary) Gustafson; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be planned in the spring with interment at the Eagle Cemetery in New Era, Michigan.
