Obituary: Dorothy A. Fraki

Dorothy A. Fraki, 78, a resident of Coles Creek, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021, at home peacefully in her bed.

She was born on November 9, 1942, in Hancock.  A daughter of the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Moyle) Hagwell,  Dorothy was raised in Hancock but moved west in high school and was a graduate of the South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard Washington.   

During High School Dorothy worked as a waitress.On March 10, 1962, she was united in marriage to George Fraki.  The couple moved to the state of Washington and Dorothy had worked as a secretary at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.  They returned to the Copper Country to make their home in Atlantic Mine.  

Mrs. Fraki had always been a hard worker.  She was employed with the local Social Security Office and later received her license to sell real estate and began working for various real estate agencies before opening her own business, Fraki Real Estate Company, which she ran for many years.  Dorothy also had run her own income tax preparation business for many years and helped her husband own and operate a residential rental business for many years.  Dorothy somehow also managed to find time to run the Baraga Houghton Keweenaw MSHDA Section 8 housing rental assistance program helping many families find affordable housing.Dorothy’s favorite hobbies were working (obviously) and seeing her grandchildren having fun.

Preceding her in death were:  husband George, son George(Dean) and daughter Deborah.     

Surviving are son Michael Fraki; grandchildren; Brandon and Cole Fraki, Ari, and Evi Usitalo, Rebekah Wernicke, Hannah (Ben) Jaehnig, Joshua Fraki, Ryan Fraki, Elizabeth (Matt) Miller, great-grandchildren: Will and Hailey Wernicke, Sam and Sophia Miller, Leon Jaehnig; sisters & brother: Nancy Wernicke , Grace Kutzke, and Larry Hagwell and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins     

A memorial service for Dorothy will be held 3:00 pm Friday, July 30, 2021, at the Antila Funeral Home of Hancock with Pastor Jesse Aho to officiate.  Burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.     

Friends may call on Friday, July 30, 2021, from 2:00 until 3:00 pm at Antila Funeral Home of Hancock.
