Donna Marie Velmer, age 70 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L’Anse.
She was born on May 15, 1952 in Norfolk, Virginia daughter to Joseph and Donna (Newland) Blood. Donna married Richard Velmer on December 14, 1985 in Baraga, MI. She worked at BCMH for 45 years, retiring February 2015.
Donna loved crocheting socks, baby hats, and baby blanket along with riding her Harley motorcycle, country line dancing, cooking, kayaking, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing. Her favorite Season was Spring and loved working in her flower beds. Even though Donna didn’t have a love for sports she rarely missed her Grandchildren’s sporting events and was always there to cheer them on. Donna was also known to some as “Bad Grandma”.
Survived by her husband Richard Velmer of L’Anse; children Joe Schultz of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Julie Schultz of L’Anse, Angie (Le) Crandall of Quinnesec, MI; Grandchildren, Anthony Crandall, Bryce, Makenna, and Madelyn Crawford; siblings Diane (Richard) Rodgers of Manistique, MI, Douglas Blood of Arkansas, Debbie (Robert) Rebholz of L’Anse; nieces and nephews, Tanya (Richard) Schjoth, Tara (Jacob) Metz, Jesse (Elizabeth) Rodgers, Cory (Maisie) Rodgers, Shauna Hutchens, and Bobbe Sue Bilodeau. Special friends Rylan Duerkop, the Ya-ya clan, Todd Peltola, Terri Cangemi, and Shirley Leonoff.
Preceding her in death are her parents Joseph and Donna Blood, and her dog Zoey.
Per her request there will be no funeral service. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
