As received from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel:

Donald E. Erickson, age 94, of L’Anse, MI passed away February 8th, 2023, at Bayside Village, L’Anse where he had been a resident. He was born in L’Anse on September 8, 1928 the son of the late Leo and Violette “Vi” (Miller) Erickson. Donald graduated from L’Anse High School in 1947. On September 10, 1949 he married the former Elaine Whitty in L’Anse. They were married for 71 years until her passing on September 14, 2020. Donald did over the road trucking before going to work with his father at Leo Erickson and Sons Sawmill in Skanee. Another mill was opened in L’Anse and the Skanee mill was eventually shut down. He tried retirement twice but he enjoyed working in the woods more. When he could no longer log he went to work at the mill, sorting logs with a pre hauler. Donald continued to work until he was 84. When his son Bob passed away, he lost all interest in working and retired for the last time. Donald was a member of the Lions Club, school board, served as Township Supervisor, and a board member of Superior National Bank. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and a few beers in between.

Donald is survived by his loving family; Donna (Robert) Baxter of Skanee. Ann (Paul) LeClaire of L’Anse, Cindy (Rick) LaPlante of Skanee and Jim (Laurie) Erickson of New Mexico, daughter-in-law Kathy Erickson of L’Anse, grandchildren Michelle LeClair, Kraig Baxter, Jarod (Elin) LeClaire, Josh (Rylie) Erickson, Betsy (John) Mendez, Charlie Erickson, Gabe Erickson, Andrew Erickson, Tina (Andy) Heikkinen and John Erickson, great grandchildren Harlie, John, and soon to be a third (Madeline), and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine, his parents, his brother, his son Bob Erickson, and grandsons Jon LeClair and PJ LeClaire.

“We would like to acknowledge the staff at Bayside for the care they have given to our father over the past few years. You have a difficult job with very little thanks. Also, to a very special lady, Therese Sullivan. Thank you, Therese, for the love and attention you gave to our father. We are forever grateful.”

A graveside service will be held sometime this summer for both Elaine and Donald.
