Obituary: Donald Beck

Donald Keith Beck, age 90 of Sidnaw, MI passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 4, 1931 in Dollarville, MI son of Walter and Vivian (Newland) Beck. Don grew up in Sidnaw and graduated from Trout Creek High School in 1949. Following graduation Don went to Detroit and worked for Dodge. After a couple year there, he returned to Sidnaw and worked in a sawmill. He then returned to Detroit area only to be laid off. With the initiation of the Korean war, Don elected to enlist in the U.S. Air Force. He enlisted at Escanaba, and was sent to Lakeland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. In the service, he spent some time in Tuscon, AZ, and North Africa, Morocco. After discharge Don attended Michigan Tech for a one semester. After he decided that college was not for him, he used his Veterans benefits to obtain a trade as a tool and Die maker. A trade he worked at for 34 years at General Motors in Grand Rapids. He married Dorothy Thompson 1956, had three children. After he retired, he moved back to Sidnaw, and did not want to leave. Don was a member of the Sidnaw United Methodist Church. He enjoyed building and reading.

Surviving are his wife Dorothy Beck of Sidnaw; children, Robyn (Roger) Zylstra of Belmont, MI, Bruce (Kathy) Beck of Wayland, MI, Steve (Peggy) Beck of Wayland, MI; grandchildren, Reece Zylstra, Rusty & Kate Zylstra, Colton & Laura Beck, Zack & Kaley Sepanick, Paul, Cassondra & Matt, Jessica; two great grandchildren North and Blakely; niece Shirley (Dean) Jackson of Marquette; and nephew Alan (Kay) Beck of Ontonagon.

Preceding him in death are his parents, and brother Gerald (silvia) Beck.

Military honors and a graveside service will be held in this summer at the Sidnaw Cemetery. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
