Obituary: Dolores J. Capello

UPDATE: A graveside service for Dolores will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Lake View Cemetery, section 37.

Dolores Jean Capello, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 6, 2022 at Garden View Assisted Living in Calumet with her family at her side.

Dolores was born January 7,1935 and was a daughter of Joseph and Mary (Sustarich)  Pechawer. 

Dolores graduated with the Calumet High School Class of 1952.

On August 27,1955 she married Peter Anthony Capello at St. Joseph/St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Calumet. 

She was employed at Calumet & Hecla Mining Company, Universal Oil Products and Lake Superior Land Company. 

She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church, member and secretary of St. Paul’s Ladies Altar Society, member and secretary and treasurer of Calumet Lady Elks.

Dolores enjoyed traveling to Fenton, MI, Las Vegas, Florida, Hawaii and cruising to Italy and surrounding

countries.

Dolores is survived by her husband, Peter Capello whom she was married to for 67 years. 

They had one daughter, Jan Capello-Maki of Fenton, MI who gave them two very special Havanese grand dogs, Ernie and Emmie. 

Dolores is survived by her sister Donna (Robert) Jutila of Lake Linden, MI and brother David

(Raynelle) Pechawer of Escanaba.

She is also survived by Jan’s Smallidge Family of Amy Smallidge (Patrick

Beck) of Davison, MI, Teresa Smallidge of Traverse City, MI and Teresa’s daughter, Molly (Cameron) Rondeau and their daughter, Tula of Maine. Dolores was a grandparent to Erin (Jim) Lane of Lapeer, MI and Melanie Smallidge of Lapeer, MI. She was a great-grandparent to Brady and Tucker Lane of Lapeer, Ml. 

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews,

great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews 

Dolores was preceded in death by, parents Joseph and Mary Pechawer, in-laws, Anton and Virginia Capello, sister Mary Ann (Robert ) Randell, son-in-laws, Rick Maki and Dale Smallidge, sisters in-law and brothers-in-law Anne (Raymond) Glasgow, Margaret (Gordon) Kingstrom, Julia (Levi) Koski, Albert (Alberta) Capello, George (Elsie) Capello and Josephine Perkins.

Visitation will take place at Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Sunday December 11, 2022 from 4-6 PM. A prayer service will be held at 6:00 PM .

A funeral mass will be held at the St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Calumet on Monday December 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Fr. Gracious Pulimoottil to officiate and Deacon Art Stancher to assist.

Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet.
