Obituary: Delano J. Harma

Delano J. Harma, 86, a resident of L’Anse and summer resident of Twin Lakes, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.

Del was born July 3, 1934, in Trimountain, a son of the late Alexander and Violet (Lammi) Harma, and was a graduate of the Jeffers High School and Michigan Tech.

He served in United States Army from 1957-59.

Del was united in marriage to the former Beverley Maki.

Del worked as a forester for Copper Range and was general manager of Northern Hardwoods. He served as president of the South Range State Bank for many years until his retirement. He was involved in many community organizations and served on several boards throughout his lifetime. Del approached his professional life with integrity, hard work and a willingness to help others.

Del was an active and longtime member of Saints Peter & Paul Lutheran Church of Houghton.

Del loved his family and they meant everything to him. He enjoyed cooking for everyone and spending time together, especially at the lake.

Surviving are his wife, Beverley; children, Cheryl (Jeff) Jameson, Steve (Michele) Harma, Lisa Andreini, and Alan (Leal) Harma; ten grandchildren, William and Jessica Jameson, Sethany (Charlie) Leffingwell, Allison Harma, Matthew, Kayla and Leah Andreini, Brett (Erin), Courtney (Len), and Alex Harma; five great-grandchildren, Finnly, Easton, Everly, Ella and Jackson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde (Carolyn) Maki, Sharon Maki, Roger (Pam) Maki, Barbara Krumm and Bruce (Sandy) Maki; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents, Del was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ilmer and Florence Maki; and brothers-in-law, Burton and Arlen Maki.

The family would like to thank the staff of UP Health Home Care-Hospice for their compassion, care and support.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, funeral services will be private and will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at Saints Peter & Paul Lutheran Church in Houghton, with Pastor Aaron Gerhke to officiate. Interment will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.
