Obituary: Debra L. LaPointe

Debra L. “Deb” LaPointe, age 69 of Baraga, MI passed away at her home on Monday, March 11, 2024. Deb was born in Highland Park, MI on April 7, 1954 the daughter of the late John M. and Mary M. (DeCoumier) LaPointe. Deb graduated from high school in 1972. She had been employed at the Ojibwa Casino as a cashier and was promoted to Cage Shift Manager. She moved to Detroit and worked at MGM Casino in Detroit as a cage shift manager. When she came back home, she was employed at the Pines. Deb was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Baraga and the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. She enjoyed traveling with her friend Mary Ann LaPointe, her telephone conversations with her friends, Krystal, Nora, Mary Ann and George, and watching the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Viking play football. In her earlier years she was an avid bowler. Deb loved entertaining for her family and friends and would put together parties for the 4th of July and Christmas.

Deb was the beloved sister of John Phillip (Lori) LaPointe, Roy James (Christine) LaPointe, Francis Henry (Martha) LaPointe, Patrick Lee LaPointe, and Michael Alan (Robyn) LaPointe, and her godchildren Shelia, Wesley, Patrick, and Derek. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Deb was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary, and her “better half” Michael Mann.

A celebration of life will be held at Deb’s home in Baraga on Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Deb’s honor to be directed to a kidney foundation of your choice
