Deborah J. Short, 69, a resident of Winona, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Deborah was born on January 14, 1954, in Hancock, to the late Roy and Betty (DeHutt) Aho. She was raised in Greenland and attended school in Mass City and Ontonagon High School where she graduated with the class of 1972. On December 31, 1972, she was united in marriage to John Short. The couple resided in Winona where they raised their three sons. Deborah was employed as a cook for the Elm River Township Schools for 26 years. She enjoyed gardening and birdwatching.
Preceding her in death besides her parents are her son, John Short, Jr., a brother, Butch Aho and sisters-in-law Sue Aho and Sue Short
She is survived by her husband John of Winona.
Her sons Scott and Eric (Christine Laitala)
5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, a brother Kevin (Patty) Aho, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private graveside service for Deborah will be held in the Woodland Cemetery in Winona with Rev. Michael Laakko to officiate.
