Obituary: Dean R. Cote

Dean R. Cote, 78, a resident of Sturgeon River Road in Chassell, passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 11, 2020 at his home.

Dean was born on October 24, 1941 in L’Anse, MI to Ray and Aunie (Wirtanen) Cote. He attended schools in St. Ignace and Chassell where he graduated from Chassell High School with the class of 1959.

Mr. Cote was a veteran having served with the United States Navy and Navel Reserve.

On February 8, 1964, he was united in marriage to the former Rose Maijala of Painesdale. Dean worked for various union construction companies as a crane operator. He was a proud member of the Operating Engineers Local 324 for 60 years and VFW Post #6507 of Chassell.

Dean enjoyed time at the Cote Farm (The Quiet Place in Worham) and spending mornings with his coffee buddies at the VFW in Chassell, Duck Unlimited which he enjoyed attending the sportsman’s night out each year. He had a joyful personality and always had a smile to share and story to tell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Donna(Cote) Outcalt, and his granddaughter Melissa Mertens.

His sons: Gary (Heather) Cote of Chassell, MI
Paul (Michelle) Cote of Troy, MI
His grandchildren: Rheanna Mertens of Winchester, MA
Josh and Kara LaTendresse of Chassell, MI
Karena (Jonathan) Wimmler of Kiel, WI
Emily and Kayla Cote of Chassell, MI
3 great-grandchildren: Nolan, Brock and EllaRose LaTendresse of Chassell as well as Baby Girl Wimmler due in July.
He is also survived by a sister Jill (Tom) Reabe of Waupun, WI
Numerous nieces, nephews and family members

He will be missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace Dean.

A graveside service for Dean will be held 2:00 pm Friday May 15, 2020, at the Chassell Cemetery with Rev. Soren Schmidt to officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the Chassell VFW Post #6507.
