Obituary: David P. Butkovich

Hurontown
David P. Butkovich, 79, a resident of Hurontown passed away Friday morning January 18, 2019, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.
He was born on February 4, 1939, in Dodgeville, a son of the late Peter and Lucille (Philpott) Butkovich. David attended the St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic School.
On August 25, 1962, he was united in marriage to the former Katharine Hutchinson and on September 27, 2000, she preceded David in death.
Mr. Butkovich was a lifelong member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator retiring from the City of Houghton after 34 years of service. David was an active member of the Hurontown Fire Department for 28 years during that time serving as an assistant chief and Fire Chief. He enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing, going on side by side rides, spending time with his family and going to their different sporting events as they grew. He was also an avid Detroit Red Wings, Tigers, and Green Bay Packers fan and always enjoyed giving his friends a hard time.
Preceding him in death were his wife and his parents, his sisters Donna Hiltunen and Barbara Koskiniemi along with his brother-in-law, Douglas Hiltunen.
Surviving are: His children: David (Debra) Butkovich of Chassell, Daron (Heather Aro) Butkovich of Dodgeville, Goldie (Steven) Easton of Toledo, OH & Gael (John) Filpus of Tapiola; His grandchildren: Derrick (Tara) Butkovich, Benny (Danielle) Butkovich, Bradley Butkovich, Bethany (Kevin) Grathoff, Matthew Dompier, Jarod Butkovich, Brandon Butkovich, Alex Butkovich, Justin Easton, Jordan Easton, Kate Filpus and Jane Filpus; His great-grandchildren: Olli, Emmette and Avery Butkovich; His brother: Paul (Lois) Butkovich of Green Bay, WI & His brother-in-law: Bernard Koskiniemi of Laurium

A Mass of Christian Burial for David will be held 11 am Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton with Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call on Monday, January 21, 2019, from 5 to 8 pm at the Plowe Funeral Home of Houghton where a parish prayer service will be held at 5:00 pm.
The Memorial Chapel & Plowe Funeral Homes of Houghton are assisting the family with the arrangements.
