Obituary: David Koski

As received from the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home:

David Alan Koski Sr (Newt) whose home was in Lake Linden but whose heart was in Keweenaw County passed away unexpectedly on January 4th, 2022.

Newt was born April 8th, 1956 and grew up in Mohawk, Michigan with his 8 siblings and beloved parents. He graduated from Calumet High School in 1974. He joined the Army and served in Korea. If you ever heard one of his stories from that time, you will know he was proud and had a great time. He attended Suomi College for criminal justice, and police school in Marquette. He served as a deputy for Keweenaw County as well was a member in the National Guard. He then worked at Northern Hardwoods for many years. On October 20th 1979, he married his Uptown Girl and bestfriend, Michele (Mary) Poisson. They had 3 children together, David, Sarah and Molly.

Newt loved the outdoors and his friends. You could often find him on his porch, waving and waiting for someone to stop by to visit. He adored having his grandchildren over and teaching them how to be feral, always with sticks, BB guns, fires and smores galore. He loved to read, especially about history and WWII, and crossword puzzles. Newt was a friend to everyone, always ready and willing to help, and always had a good joke.

He was preceded in death by parents Raymond and Bertha Koski, his wife Michele, siblings Gene, Marcia, Dan and Alicia, and best friends Garp and Roach.

He is survived by his children David (Miriam) Koski, Sarah Koski, Molly (Jason Lindeman) Koski, his beloved grandchildren Makayla, Isaiah, Kobe, Deacon, Kaylynn, Ava, Isabella, Amira, Jacob and Mia, Siblings Rich Koski, Michael Koski, Lori (Bruce) Mihelich and Ronald (Wanda) Koski; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and so many friends we couldn’t even begin to count.

A graveside ceremony will take place June 4th, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek, where he will join his best friend again. A luncheon will follow.

In lieu of condolences, the kids ask that you crack a cold one, crack a good joke, and wave at your neighbor – just like Newt would have done.
